Students can get their Massachusetts Learner’s Permit at the age of 16.
No. However, to get your driver’s license before you are 18 years old, you must complete an RMV-approved driver’s education course.
Learner’s Permit holders may drive when accompanied by a driver who is licensed, who is at least 21 years of age, who has at least one year of driving experience, and who is occupying a seat beside the driver.
A permit holder who is under the age of 18 may not drive between 12:00 AM (midnight) and 5:00 AM unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who is licensed with at least one year of driving experience and whose license or right to operate is not revoked or suspended.

Massachusetts law requires that the program must include:
30 hours of classroom instruction
12 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction
6 hours of observing another student driver (no charge for observation hours)
A 2-hour Parent Class, which at least one parent has to attend. (A Parent Class certificate is valid for 5 years). All Parent Classes are free of charge.
All these requirements have to be completed before the RMV issues a Driver Education Certificate and before a License test can be scheduled.
We strongly recommend that a student complete all these requirements at least 6 weeks before they are eligible for their license test if they desire to obtain their license at the age of 16.5 years.
A parent, guardian, or designee must complete a 2-hour Parent Class before a student can start driving lessons with a driving school, unless you already took one within the last 5 years.
Each of the 8 driving lessons scheduled are 2 hours in length – 90 minutes of driving and 30 minutes of observation.
Observation is time spent watching another student driver during a road lesson with Way to Go Driving School.
Yes, students can transfer their completed portion of classroom instruction or their completed portion of driving and observation to Way to Go Driving School.
